NEW YORK — A pit bull was shot and killed by a New York police officer early on Sunday after it attacked his colleague. <br /> <br />The two officers were dispatched following a call at a home for an illegal eviction after midnight in Jamaica, Queens, according to New York Daily News. <br /> <br />When they got there, the door opened and a pit bull came charging out. The dog attacked one of the officers and bit down on his hand. <br /> <br />As his colleague fought with the pit bull, the other officer drew his gun and fired, <br />killing the dog on scene. <br /> <br />The injured officer was taken to North Shore University hospital to be treated for tinnitus and the bite wound.
