Austria: driver who ran over crowds 'thought he was being chased'

A man accused of driving his car into a crowd of pedestrians in Austria has gone on trial in the town of Graz.<br /><br /> Three people were killed and more than 100 injured when the driver ran amok in his SUV along several streets.<br /><br /> The 27-year-old told the court he didn’t want to run anyone over, he thought he was being chased and about to be shot and wanted to get away.<br /><br /> Prosecutors are not pushing for murder charges and want him sent to a mental institution, following psychiatrists’ assessments.<br /><br /> The trial is expected to last for 10 days.<br /><br /> Trial of killer driver begins in Graz Austria https://t.co/nrbWnwc2kq— The Local Austria (@TheLocalAustria) September 20, 2016<br />
