In a joint press conference with Turkey’s EU affairs minister Omer Celik, British foreign secretary Boris Johnson praised the UK’s relationship with Ankara and also found time to talk about his “beautiful, very well functioning Turkish washing machine”. The comments came during Johnson’s first official visit to Turkey since he wrote a poem about the president having sex with a goat.
