Typhoon Megi struck Taiwan with strong winds and heavy rain on Tuesday, causing various damages across the island.

Megi made a landfall at Hualien City in the east part of the island at about 14:00, carrying top wind speeds of 198 kilometers per hour, according to the island's meteorological agency.

A police station in Changhua County was hit hard by Megi. The typhoon broke into a room and made its ceilings fall apart onto the floor. Fortunately, the police officer on duty did not suffer injuries.

"The strong wind was blowing heavily. It is suspected to rush into the ceiling first and a down-ward force made all the frameworks of the ceiling collapse," said a police officer.

In Taichung City, the typhoon triggered a collapse of scaffolds from a shopping mall top. The sudden collapse injured three people and crashed a parked car below.
