Gorakhpur railway station became the proud owner of the world’s longest platform. On 6 October 2013, Gorakhpur became the world's longest railway platform, after the inauguration of the remodelled Gorakhpur Yard, with a stretch of around 1.35 kilometres. KK Atal inaugurated the remodelled Gorakhpur Yard. With this achievement, the NER has also secured a place in the Limca Book of Records.
