Some 900 people have fled the Iraqi city of Mosul and crossed the border into Syria, the UN refugee agency says.<br />Residents of Mosul said Islamic State was using civilians as human shields as Kurdish and Iraqi forces captured outlying villages in their advance on the jihadists' stronghold.<br />ISIS said on Monday its fighters had targeted the attacking forces with 10 suicide bombs and that their foes had surrounded five villages but not taken them.
