"The Tin Drum" by Gunter Grass was originally published as "Die Blechtrommel" in German language. It happens to be the author's first book in "Danzig Trilogy. <br /> <br />The novel was made into a movie in 1979. It was a highly successful movie, winning both the Palme d'Or in 1979 and the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1980.
