Samsung said Wednesday that its net profit dropped 16.8 percent to $4 billion on the heels of a recall of its Galaxy Note 7 smartphone. Samsung's overall operating profit sunk 30 percent from a year earlier. After the Note 7's release in August, reports of phones melting and exploding forced the company to recall and eventually discontinue the phone earlier this month.
