Widespread protests have taken place in several cities across Morocco after a fishmonger was reportedly crushed to death trying to retrieve fish confiscated by police.<br /><br /> Officers took the fish Mouhcine Fikri had bought and threw it into a garbage truck. The 31-year-old is said to have died after diving in to retrieve it.<br /><br /> He was reportedly in possession of 500 kg of swordfish, sales of which are banned at this time of year.<br /><br /> The incident in the northern town of Al-Hoceima sparked a level of outrage rarely seen in Morocco, where King Mohamed is still the most influential figure.<br /><br /> Currently on a tour of Africa, the king has ordered the interior minister to present royal condolences to the family. Both the interior and justice ministries have promised an investigation into Fikri’s death.<br />
