Paul Ryan was re-elected by the House Republican conference Tuesday to serve a second term as speaker of the House.<br />To retain the speaker’s job, Mr. Ryan, of Wisconsin, will still have to clear a vote by the full House when the new Congress assembles in January — when he must win at least 218 votes.<br />"Welcome to the dawn of a new unified Republican government," Ryan declared at a news conference a few hours before the closed-door leadership elections.<br />"It feels really good to say that, actually.<br />This will be a government focused on turning President-elect Trump’s victory into real progress for the American people."
