During his early childhood years growing up in Manchester, Jamaica, Major Fresh was accustomed to seeing his family members participate in musical events at church. “I used sing around the neighborhood and take part in school concerts and people would tell me that I had a good voice and great talent,” he said. Fresh never lost sight of his long term goal to make a solid mark in music so he continued to enter concerts, where he consistently snagged the first and second placement. When he entered the Rising Star competition, which is hosted by famed singer Nadine Sutherland and Anthony Miller, airs on TVJ and is considered to be Jamaica’s version of the popular American Idol, he quickly rose through the ranks, going as far as the sixth round, when a conflict in scheduling caused him to put an end to his quest. Fresh, who has been generating interest in musical circles on the local scene, is amassing enormous airplay for his hot new single on the signs rhythm “Leggo Dat,” which elicited positive feedback from the crowd at when he performed on the show, Island Explosion, the Christmas time reggae show featuring Bounty Killer, Capleton, Beenie Man and Vybez Kartel. As the new year gets underway, Fresh is devoting a lot of time in the studio, honing his skills and putting the finishing touches on his soon-to-be released debut CD.
