Merlin sits inside the Vihear Luong Cave entrance photographing the Asian wrinkle-lipped bat (Chaerephon plicatus) emerging at sunset along the high ceiling of the cave, while Paula is outside on a high ridge, also photographing the columns of bats. It was a nearly verticle 100-meter climb to get to the cave, after hiking a half mile in 100-degree heat.
