"City of Joy" by Dominique Lapierre was first published in 1985. The book was adapted into a highly acclaimed movie of the same name in 1992. <br /> <br />It is noticeable that Kolkata got nicked named 'the City of Joy' after the publication of this novel. The story is set in a slum of Anand Nagar, based on Plkhana, Kolkata.
