Influential federal judge Miles Lord dies at 97

Miles Lord, a federal judge who served in Minnesota, has died at 97 years old. Lord served as Minnesota's attorney general and the U.S. attorney for the state. He was then appointed to the bench by President Lyndon Johnson in 1965. Among most notable cases was the United States v. Reserve Mining, which was filed in 1972. He ordered Reserve Mining Company to shut down its plant and to stop dumping its taconite tailings into Lake Superior. It was an unprecedented move during that time period.
