ST. PETERSBURG, RUSSIA — Late last month an unidentified man in Russia tried to end his life via two self-inflicted crossbow arrow wounds to his chest and heart.

One arrow struck his left ventricle, left atrium and mitral valve, while the other hit his abdominal aorta, reported the Daily Mail.

He was taken to GBUZ Elizabethan hospital, but they didn’t have the resources to help him, so he was taken to the Federal Almazov North-West Medical Research Center. There, deft-handed surgeons cut out his heart and removed the arrows. Next, they put his heart back and repaired the damage by using the man’s own tissue.

His condition was last reported as stable but serious.
