An effort by anti-Trump protesters to persuade Republican electors to abandon the president-elect failed. <br />President-elect Donald Trump has been formally voted the next president of the United States by the Electoral College. <br /> <br />In order to win the presidential election a candidate must receive at least 270 electoral votes.
