BERLIN — New information has revealed that the suspect connected with this week’s truck attack in Berlin was previously investigated by German police in a terrorism probe.

Documents found inside the vehicle used to kill 12 people in Berlin on Monday have been linked to a Tunisian asylum seeker, reported Reuters. That suspect was identified as Anis Amri, reported the Washington Post. He’s said to have left Tunisia seven years ago.

According to Reuters, Amri initially came to Italy as an illegal immigrant. His father explained to a Tunisian radio station that he spent four years in jail there on accusations of setting a school on fire.

In 2015, he wound up in Germany, where he was investigated for allegedly planning a robbery to finance a terror attack, but this was dropped due to a lack of evidence, reported the Washington Post

Authorities were also aware that Amri had “interacted” with ISIS-linked Abu Walaa who was arrested last month for allegedly sending fighters to Islamic State.
