Libyan plane in 'potential hijack' lands in Malta

A Libyan passenger jet with 118 people on board has reportedly been hijacked and diverted to Malta. <br /><br /> The state-owned Afriqiyah Airways plane was flying from Sebha in the southwest of Libya to Tripoli. <br /><br /> Local media in Malta reported that two hijackers had threatened to blow up the Airbus A320. <br /><br /> Malta’s Prime Minister Joseph Muscat tweeted: ‘‘Informed of potential hijack situation of a #Libya internal flight diverted to #Malta. Security and emergency operations standing by – JM”<br /><br /> The tiny Mediterranean island of Malta is about 500 km north of the Libyan coast.<br />
