Far Too Hot for Wombats to Bother Getting Up for Breakfast

<br /> <p>Wombats can’t sweat, so the chubby marsupials failed to display much energy around the breakfast table as temperatures soared on January 10.</p><p>Three wombats at the Sleepy Burrows Sanctuary – Tora, Patsy and Smokey – were seen (and heard) lazily munching on leaves and sweet potatoes.</p><br /><p>“In the very hot weather they need to be kept in conditions under 24 degrees, otherwise they suffer heat stress which, if prolonged, can kill bare-nosed wombats,” keeper Donna Stepan said.</p><br /><p>“So, at the sanctuary on the hot days, when the younger wombats wake up, their ‘breakfast’ is served inside until the temperature outside is below 24 degrees Celsius.” Credit: YouTube/Sleepy Burrows Wombat Sanctuary via Storyful</p><br />
