A Nigerian warplane has mistakenly carried out an attack on a refugee camp killing up to 100 people.<br /><br /> The strike hit an area for displaced persons near Rann, in the north-east of the country.<br /><br /> Breaking News: Nigeria mistakenly bombed a refugee camp while hunting militants, killing 50 people and injuring 120 https://t.co/eevaA1shes— The New York Times (@nytimes) January 17, 2017<br /> <br /><br /> The Red Cross say six aid workers have been killed and 120 people are being treated for their injuries. <br /><br /> General Lucky Irabor made the announcement:” Unfortunately, the strike was conducted, but it turned out that locals somewhere around were affected.<br />These are results of the fog of war. It’s unfortunate. That’s the reason why this war must come to an end”.<br /><br /> The carnage took place near the border with Cameroon where the Nigerian army is engaged in operations against Boko Haram. <br /><br /> Doctors Without Borders have staff on the ground and are preparing to move medical teams from Cameroon and Chad to assist the wounded.<br /><br /> The army say the aircraft attacked believing it was a Boko Haram enclave.<br />
