FORGOTTEN Rangers forward Michael O’Halloran would flourish in a move to Motherwell.

That was the view of Well boss Mark McGhee who has revealed an approach has been made to the Ibrox club about a possible loan move for the 26-year-old.

Since joining from St Johnstone last January in a £500k swoop O’Halloran has only played 31 times for the Light Blues, including just five starts this term.

Motherwell are just one of a number of SPFL Premiership clubs tracking the player but McGhee believes his side would be a perfect fit.

He said: “We would jump at the chance of taking Michael but I think most clubs in the Premiership would.

“We don’t know where that’s gong yet but we’re interested.

“He’s a good player and I would have expected him to feature but I’m sure Mark has his reasons.

“The team has a shape and he hasn’t featured.

“But I think that someone who is such a good player gets games between now and the end of the season.

“So I think it would benefit him to come somewhere like Fir Park on loan.”

Rangers manager Mark Warburton has refused to rule out sending O’Halloran out on loan, admitting he understands the player’s frustration at a lack of game time.

He has said that talk of a move to Hearts is ‘bizarre’ while McGhee is hoping the link between the player and his assistant James McFadden – who played at St Johnstone with O’Halloran – may sway things towards the Lanarkshire club.

“Absolutely. We know the player intimately. Faddy played with him,” said McGhee.

“So we know him well. We’d have no hesitation.”
