Learn how to make Dal Makhani at home with our Chef Smita only on Rajshri Food. <br /> <br />Dal Makhani is a popular dish originating from Punjab. It is a mixed lentil curry generally made with lots of butter and cream and is absolutely delicious, best served with steamed rice and hot parathas! <br /> <br />Ingredients <br />2 cups of whole black lentil or black urad dal soaked overnight <br />5 onions finely chopped <br />6 tomatoes blanched and pureed <br />1 cup of salted butter (Amul) <br />1 cup cream <br />1½ tbsp deghi mirchi powder <br />5 tbsp ghee <br />2 tbsp ginger and garlic each finely chopped <br />1 tsp Punjabi garam masala <br /> <br />METHOD: <br />Pressure cook the dal for 3 whistles and then put the flame on a low and allow it to cook for 20 minutes <br /> <br />Heat the ghee and add the onions and sauté them golden. Then add the ginger and the garlic and sauté till the raw smell goes off <br /> <br />Then add the chilli powder and the tomatoes and go on sautéing till the oil oozes out <br /> <br />Then add the boiled dal, salt and mix well <br /> <br />Add the butter and cook on a low flame for 45 min or till it the lentil leaves its starch completely and the dal becomes thick <br /> <br />Sprinkle the garam masala, add the cream and mix well and remove from flame and serve
