After a 40 year run, there is a new Wookiee in town. The role of Chewbacca, normally played by Peter Mayhew, has been passed on to a new, young actor, Joonas Suotamo. Suotamo's first full movie as Chewbacca will be the Han Solo movie, set to be released in May 2018. Suotamo wrote this to Star Wars fans after getting the role: "I am profoundly grateful for this amazing opportunity to become a part of the Star Wars franchise that I have loved sine my childhood." "Chewbacca is one of the most iconic characters in the history of film, and Peter's development and portrayal of this beloved Wookiee has spread so much joy across the globe."
