BALTIMORE — An interesting-looking device has cleared over a million pounds of trash from Baltimore harbor since it was installed in May 2014. <br /> <br />The device is known as Mr. Trash Wheel, which is a solar- and hydro-powered trash disposer installed in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. <br /> <br />The wheel is either powered by the current of the Jones Falls River, or by solar panels when the current is slow. The wheel then drives the conveyor belt. <br /> <br />The trash in the river is lifted onto the conveyor belt and emptied into a dumpster inside. A boat then tows the dumpster away when it is full. <br /> <br />Mr. Trash Wheel has a growing social media presence, with its Twitter account already having amassed more than 9,000 followers.
