BBC journalists and tourists were left running for cover from falling debris after Mount Etna erupted on Thursday (March 16).

BBC footage showed the group running away as smoke, steam and rocks spewed out of the volcano, Europe's most active, before finding refuge in a vehicle.

Ten people were injured and six were taken to hospital but none was in a serious condition, emergency services said.

At 3,330 metres (10,926 feet), Etna is the highest volcano in mainland Europe and can burst into life several times a year.
