LOCKHART, TEXAS — A high school teacher was photographed grinning ear to ear at the police station while she was getting booked on suspicions of a having an affair with one of her students. <br /> <br />Sarah Fowlkes, 27, has been a science teacher in Lockhart, Texas since 2014. While there, she allegedly became intimate with a 17-year-old male student, despite being married since 2013. Police say the two exchanged text messages of a “sexual nature,” which may developed into a physical relationship. <br /> <br />On March 10, school administrators were tipped off about their bond, and immediately suspended Fowlkes before contacting police. Mere hours after celebrating her 27th birthday with her husband, Fowlkes was issued a warrant for her arrest, and willingly turned herself into authorities. When she arrived at the station, she reportedly removed her cardigan and smiled for her mugshot. <br /> <br />Fowlkes is facing charges for “sexual content with the intent to arouse or gratify the sexual desire” of the 17-year-old student. If convicted, she could serve a prison sentence of up to 20 years. <br /> <br />In the state of Texas, 17 is the legal age of consent. However, educators are forbidden from engaging in sexual relationships with their students.
