Health care activist Jose Veloz, who lives in one of Quito’s poorest neighborhoods, is fighting to save Ecuador’s free public health care system. This Sunday, the fate of access to health care for millions of Ecuadoreans will be decided at the ballot box. Presidential candidate Lenin Moreno, representing the Citizens' Revolution, wants to maintain Ecuador’s free public health care system. Opposition candidate Guillermo Lasso, a wealthy right-wing banker, wants to privatize it and make it into a “free trade zone.”
