Peruvian Navy Deploys Dinghies to Reach Residents Stranded by Floodwaters

<p>The Peruvian Navy pushed a dinghy across floodwaters to reach a group of people stranded in Piura, northwest Peru, on Tuesday, March 28.</p><p>People were visibly distressed, with one woman seen crying in this footage. A male voice could be heard saying: “Tranquilo,” or “calm down.”</p><p>A new round of flooding has hit northern Peruvian since Monday, after the Piura river burst its banks following a weekend of heavy rains. The flooding prompted the evacuation of more than 500 people, while hundreds more still awaited rescue. At least four people drowned.</p><p>More rain was expected to fall in the region on Wednesday.</p><br />
