YouTube demonetization: Why YouTube is not a news platform — Plane Crashes

YOUTUBE LAND — YouTube caught itself in quite the pickle last month when they had 250 advertisers jump ship after brands complained about having their ads run along offensive content. <br /> <br />Staring at a $750 million-dollar loss and huge PR debacle, YouTube went with the knee jerk reaction and put broad — not well-defined — demonetization policies into place. <br /> <br /> <br />Basically, YouTube is demonetizing news stories. By doing so, YouTube is sending the signal that it is not a platform for the dissemination of news. <br /> <br /> <br />YouTube has a content sensitivity category for advertisers called “Tragedy and Conflict” … however, YouTube still demonetizes stories despite letting advertisers Opt-In to this content. <br /> <br />Just look at our stories for plane crashes. YouTube is all over the place. <br /> <br />Going forward we’re still going to be covering the news, we’re just going to be a bit more creative with our language. <br /> <br />For any topics too hot for YouTube, you’re going to see a change in jargon … for now. <br /> <br />Let’s be honest, sh...oh wait, that word isn’t YouTube friendly — stuff happens, and when it does, TomoNews will be here to report it.
