This is a documentary I found interesting. <br /> <br />The discovery of a young woman’s headless body by the side of a mountain at Jambaroo south of Sydney in 1981 began one of the most gruesome murder investigations seen in NSW. <br /> <br />Her fingers had been cut off at the knuckles and her bra used to ties her wrists and legs to each other. She had also been decapitated. The murder was given the gruesome tag as the “”Heads and Fingers’’ case. <br /> <br />The body was identified three days later when police released photos of the bra and blouse found on the headless body. <br /> <br />The victim’s mother, Beverly Barry, recognised the clothing as that of her 19-year-old daughter Kim, who had been missing since the previous Friday night. <br /> <br />Three weeks after the discovery of Kim’s torso, her head and fingers were found about 1km away in a plastic garbage bag – along with Graham Potter’s dressing gown and sheets from his bed. “What was done to that young woman was horrific,’’ former Homicide Detective Keith Smith said. “Kim was a teenager starting her adult life and had gone out to enjoy herself.’’ <br /> <br />But on the night of February 6, 1981, she ran into Potter, who was out on his buck’s night at the Crown Gardens disco on Keira St in Wollongong. Potter, a 23-year-old coalminer, was due to marry his childhood sweetheart Sherree on Valentine’s Day, eight days later. <br /> <br />“After he met Kim at the disco, the pair went back to Potter’s flat at Corrimal,’’ Det Smith said. “We are pretty sure Kim rejected his advances and he got enraged and hit her with incredible force over the head with a spanner. “He went back to the disco an hour later and told his brother he changed his mind about sleeping with her and she went home.’’ <br /> <br />Potter and his brother went back to the flat in the early hours of the morning. Kim Barry lay dead in the spare room. At some stage, while his brother was asleep, Potter took the young shop assistant’s body into the bathroom and used a hacksaw to cut of her head and fingers, wrapped the body parts in sheets and put Kim’s purse and other clothing in a bag. <br /> <br />He was arrested 13 days later when he returned to his parents’ home. Potter spent the next 14 years in jail, marrying Sheree inside in 1982.
