<p>The US Department of Defense confirmed</a> on April 13 that coalition fighter jets accidentally killed 18 US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces soldiers</a> in an April 11 airstrike near al-Tabqa in the Raqqa province.</p><p>According to the press release, “The strike was requested by the partnered forces, who had identified the target location as an ISIS fighting position. The target location was actually a forward SDF fighting position. … The Coalition is assessing the cause of the incident and will implement appropriate safeguards to prevent similar incidents in the future.”</p><p>This footage, captured by an activist in Kurdish-held Ain Issa, shows the funeral procession for the 18 Kurdish soldiers killed in the airstrike.</p><br />
