<p>Afghanistan’s defense ministry said</a> on April 22 that more than 100 soldiers had been killed in an attack the day before in an army base in Mazar-e Sharif in northern Balkh province.</p><p>The ministry’s statement blamed Taliban fighters for the attack. BBC reported</a> that the group had claimed responsibility for it.</p><p>Reuters cited</a> an unnamed official as saying the death toll could be as high as 140.</p><p>This footage shows security forces outside the base after the attack.</p><br />
