<p>A record 206 endangered North Atlantic right whales – about 40 percent of the global population – were spotted by researchers in Cape Cod Bay off Massachusetts on April 14, according to local reports</a>.</p><p>Drone operator Carl Jacobs captured this spectacular footage of a pod of right whales feeding in the bay that day, close to Sesuit Harbor.</p><p>Though the whales tend to feed in waters off Massachusetts this time of year, the high numbers are giving researchers hope that their overall numbers are increasing.</p><p>However, researchers also expressed sadness and disappointment after a right whale calf was reportedly</a> found dead in the bay on April 13, bringing the number of known North Atlantic right whales down to 523.</p><br />
