Mosul Residents Raise Cross Near Damaged St. George Monastery to Mark Feast of St. George

<p>Mosul residents, alongside several Iraqi military and political officials, helped the local Christian community raise a large wooden cross near the damaged St. George Monastery on April 24.</p><p>A number of local and national Iraqi Christian groups were involved in the event to mark the Feast of St. George in Mosul, including Noah’s Ark for Peaceful Coexistence</a>. The St. George Monastery</a>, a late 17th century church restored in 1931, was partially damaged by Islamic State fighters in the wake of its 2014 capture of the city.</p><p>The Feast of St. George was celebrated in Iraqi Christian communities across the country on April 24</a>.</p><br />
