Congress prevents government shutdown with stopgap bill

The U.S. House of Representatives passed a stopgap legislation to avoid government shutdown on Friday.<br />The House passed the bill with a tally of 382-30 votes.<br />The legislation will be sent to President Donald Trump to sign into law later in the day.<br />The bill provides federal funding until May 5, which gives lawmakers enough time to reach a deal on funding for the rest of the fiscal year that ends on September 30.<br />Congressman Jim McGovern said, "The fact that we are here again at the last minute just trying to keep the government open is sad.<br />Once again, we have a manufactured crisis at the edge of a cliff."
