Police used water cannon against demonstrators who took to the streets of Santiago on International Workers' Day, Monday. Protesters gathered in the centre of the Chilean capital and faced off with police armed vehicles on the southern side of the city's main avenue, the Alameda, near the University of Santiago. Police tried to quell the riot and disperse the stone-throwing demonstrators by firing water cannons at them.
