Since the President announced the decision, with the goal of re-establishing peace between his government and the opposition after a month of intense and violent protests, there have been a heavy trail of criticism both regionally and internationally. Opposition forces believe Maduro will use the move to cement the power of the PSUV, and sideline the opposition-led legislative branch of government. However, many do not.
