<p>The West Mims Wildfire grew to more than 140,000 acres on Tuesday, May 9. The fire in the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge is 12 percent contained.</p><p>Evacuation orders were in place for the southern end of Charlton County, according to the incident report, and a number of highways were closed.</p><p>The smoke from the fire could be seen as far south as Jacksonville, Florida, and officials had issued a smoke alert for the area. Nearly 700 firefighters from across the southeast are battling the wildfire.</p><br />
