by Jeff Donlan
A robot just operated on a human eye for the first time ever. 12 patients in the UK underwent retinal surgeries; six by a human surgeon, and six by a robot. The patients that were operated on by the robot experienced less damage to the retina. The robot, aka the FlexDex surgical tool, attaches to a surgeon’s arm. Seven motors allow the robotic arm to make movements as precise as one micron. FlexDex’s creators say this could be used for surgeries previously thought to be too difficult.

The post This Robot Just Operated On A Human Eye appeared first on Vocativ.
