<p>With no alternate mode of transportation, two residents of Pierrefonds used kayaks to navigate the flooded Quebec city on Tuesday, May 9.</p><p>About 2,200 Canadian forces have been deployed to flood-affected parts of Quebec, including Pierrefonds and nearby Montreal, as part of Operation LENTUS.</p><p>The Canadian Armed Forces said in a statement</a> that the flood relief efforts included sandbag distribution, traffic and evacuation assistance, general patrolling of infrastructure and citizens, and the protection of water treatment plants and bridges.</p><p>A Public Safety Canada press release</a> stated: “More troops are now deployed for the operation in Quebec than the rest of all Canadian Armed Forces operations around the world combined.”</p><br />
