It will cost the family £30,000-a-month ($38,849).

Yagiz's father Sedat, 32, a car mechanic, said: 'If Yagiz doesn't use this medicine he will continue gaining weight, he will not be able to walk, run or even breathe.'

Yagiz was born with a leptin deficiency - the hormone that regulates weight and metabolism.

Sedat and Yagiz's mother Sevda, 26, took their son to the doctor when he kept uncontrollably gaining weight.

He now weighs in at 32kg (70.5lbs) and is getting heavier every day.

Local social services refuse to fund the treatment, forcing Yagiz's parents to appeal to Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for support.

Even if the family could afford the medication, payment would still need to be guaranteed by the government and administered by the health department.

Sevda said: 'I want Yagiz to be able to walk and run like all other children. He is in a very difficult condition. There is no doctor we haven't visited in the past year.

'Wherever we went we couldn't get results. Now I ask our president to help us. I appeal to him. There is no other medicine which can help Yagiz.

'He continually wants to eat. I try to stop him but he is already 32 kilos.

She said: 'He wants to go out to walk, to play.

'They told us to put him on a diet but his illness has nothing to do with his diet.

'Even when I was only breastfeeding him he was gaining sometimes two kilos per month. He is still gaining two or two and a half kilos every month.'

Source: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-4491498/Five-stone-toddler-needs-30-000-month-treatment.html
