<p>A fire that broke out in an Auckland skyscraper on Thursday, May 18, was brought under control</a> at about 4 pm as it emitted a huge plume of smoke over the city.</p><p>According to Stuff.co.nz</a> construction workers at the building site were evacuated from the 21-storey building, which was being converted into a hotel.</p><p>“We were stopped at the lights and it was kind of terrifying to witness and be in close proximity to a building that was billowing out that much smoke,” witness Melanie Kit said.</p><br />
