<p>The Syrian army and allied militias advanced in Homs province and captured new areas from Islamic State on May 23, according to the Syrian State News Agency</a> (SANA).</p><p>SANA said “dozens” of IS fighters were killed in the military operations, on positions to the east and south of al-Qaryatayn</a> in Homs province.</p><p>Opposition media said</a> that the Syrian army had gained substantial territories from IS and now controlled large areas near Palmyra</a> and al-Qaryatayn. Local activist media and militia sources also reported on the advances.</p><p>This footage was shared by a pro-regime media account and is described as showing the advances in Homs province.</p><br />
