Aerial Footage Shows Landslide That Wiped Out Portion of Pacific Coast Highway

<p>Aerial footage taken near Big Sur, California, shows a massive landslide that has closed a portion of the Pacific Coast Highway, also known as Highway 1. The slide was reported on May 21; this video was published on May 22.</p><p>Caltrans District 5 reported</a> a few million tons of rock and dirt slide across the road. In what Caltrans described as “Mother Nature hard at work,” the tweet said about one-third of the roadway was covered, 35 to 40 feet deep in some spots.</p><p>A Caltrans representative told the Los Angeles Times</a> smaller slides had occurred across Highway 1, but crews had to abandon their work after engineers noticed a section of the upper hillside had started to move.</p><br />
