<p>Foam was seen coming off Bangalore’s heavily polluted Varthur Lake on May 29</a> after heavy rain. According to local reports, the substance is toxic and caused by the large amounts of industrial effluent that flow into the lake.</p><p>The problem is a recurring one, with locals complaining of its dangers and the disruption it causes to businesses and traffic. A wire mesh has been erected around the lake in an attempt to contain it. Bangalore Development Authority commissioner Rakesh Singh was quoted in the Times of India</a> as saying, “All authorities are aware of the problem. They need to give it deeper thought.”</p><br />
