<p>A US Navy crew rescued a skier who fell into a deep crevasse at more than 8,000 feet on Mount Baker, Washington, on Sunday, June 4.</p><p>The 58-year-old British Columbia man suffered head, chest and spine injuries and was taken to a hospital in Bellingham, the Navy reported. The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office identified the man as Ronald Veperts, according to a news report</a>. His climbing party was able to get him out of the crevasse, but they were unable to move him further.</p><p>Rescuers were lowered from a Naval helicopter to examine Veperts before he was hoisted aboard the helicopter and taken the the hospital.</p><p>It is at least the third incident in the North Cascades and the second Naval rescue on Mount Baker in two weeks, the news report said</a>.</p><p>This video shows the rescue.</p><br />
