CHENNAI: Ending nearly one month of uncertainty over the leadership of the AIADMK, former chief minister J Jayalalithaa's close aide V K Sasikala on Saturday assumed office as the general secretary of the party.<br /><br />She is the sixth general secretary of the party, founded by matinee idol M G Ramachandran and is also the second woman to occupy the post after Jayalalithaa.<br /><br />In her maiden speech after formally taking over the reins at the AIADMK headquarters here, Sasikala exuded confidence that the party cadres would support her.<br /><br />"I accept this responsibility with the confidence that several crores of party cadres will stand by me," said 62-year-old Sasikala in an emotionally charged speech, in which she recalled her deceased friend's name repeatedly. <br /><br />Watch video for more details on this news clip. <br /><br />Public TV brings to you the latest updates from all walks of life, be it politics or entertainment, religion or sports, crime or any other thing.
