The 24-story Grenfell Tower is home to several hundred people. Residents had reportedly complained about fire safety for years. The high-rise, built in the 1970s</a>, had no sprinkler system and several reports suggest external cladding</a> added in 2015 may have also contributed to the fire’s rapid spread.<p>The London Fire Brigade commissioner said she’d never seen a fire of this scale in her 29 years on the job.
