ISIS destroyed Mosul’s Grand al-Nuri mosque and its iconic leaning minaret known as al-Hadba Wednesday night, Iraq's Ministry of Defense said. The mosque, which is also known as Mosul’s Great Mosque, is where ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi declared an ‘Islamic caliphate’ in 2014, shortly after Mosul was overrun by militants. The minaret, which leaned like Italy’s Tower of Pisa, had stood for more than 840 years.

Credit: US CENTCOM

RT LIVE http://rt.com/on-air

Subscribe to RT! http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=RussiaToday

Like us on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/RTnews
Follow us on Twitter http://twitter.com/RT_com
Follow us on Instagram http://instagram.com/rt
Follow us on Google+ http://plus.google.com/+RT
Listen to us on Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/rttv

RT (Russia Today) is a global news network broadcasting from Moscow and Washington studios.
