The Twin Cities Pride parade was halted for about 20 minutes on Sunday, June 25, by a group of more than 100 Black Lives Matter protesters in Minneapolis. The protesters carried a sign stating “Justice for Philando” and “#NoJusticeNoPride.”

The group read aloud a list of demands to parade organizers before performing a “die-in” for several minutes, according to a news report. The group then started its own march about two blocks ahead of the parade.

The protest comes about a week after a jury acquitted a former St. Anthony, Minnesota, police officer in the shooting death of Philando Castile. The shooting and now the acquittal sparked protests in the Twin Cities.

Twin Cities Pride organizers originally had asked Minneapolis police to refrain from marching in this year’s parade because of the tensions over the acquittal.
